George Magnus passed away suddenly last Saturday evening at about 9 o'clock at his home southeast of Macon at the age of 79 years and 11 months. His sister, Miss Molly Magnus, who has stayed with him since the death of his wife, was at his side when he died.
George Magnus, son of Henry Magnus and his wife, Caroline, nee Sulhoff, was bom in Randolph County, Missouri, on December 9, 1860. Toward the close of the Civil War he came to Macon County where he spent the remaining 75 years of his life on a farm on the east edge of Macon.
At the age of fourteen, he was confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church and remained a member until his death.
On February 10, 1892 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Krauck, who died only five months after her marriage to Mr. Magnus, with typhoid fever. September 6, 1914, he married Mrs. Selma Giesclman. She died on April 2, 1932.
Those left to mourn his passing are his four sisters, Mrs. Wm. Nolting of Fort Worth, Tex.; Mrs. John Spellman of Forest Green, Mo.; Mrs. Carl A. Troester of Kirksville; and Miss Molly Magnus of the home; one brother, Frank Magnus of east of Macon; two step-sister, Mrs. Fred Magnus, Sr., and Mrs. August H.
