Robert married Emma Marie Petersen in 1947. They had two sons and three daughters together; he was also step-father to Emma's son, Drew, from her first marriage. He earned his living as a carpenter while volunteering as a Policeman in Winfield Park, New Jersey.
He died on April 21, 1978, in Rahway, Union, New Jersey, at the age of 53.
