Anderson was the son Rev. John Jr. and Narcissa Shipp Edwards. He was the fifth born of eleven children. He married Serena Francis "Fanny" Sebree on July 17, 1842 in Clay County, Missouri. Fanny was the daughter of Laban and Sophia Shipp Sebree. Anderson and Fanny had four children. Anderson died shortly after the birth of their last child.
