**Guantanamo, called by the English Cumberland Harbour is where the city of St. Jago de Cuba once was, it is now in ruins.

Louisa Josephine Floreate Wood and her brother Charles S. Floreate Wood were adopted by their step father Adolphus E. Wood in Cuba where they were born, and were brought to U.S. about 1833. While on board the ship, the family witnessed "the falling of the stars". They had 6 children: Mary Virginia Gooch, b. 1849, m. James Allen Martin; Caroline Leeman Gooch, b. 1851, m. William Edward Wiley; Charles William Gooch, b. 1853/4, m. Carey Hazelet; Matilda Catherine Gooch, b. 1853, m. John Hopewell; James Adolphus Gooch, b. 1857, m. Nannie Vanarsdall; Bell Louisa Price Gooch, b. 1861, never married.

DEATHS.
Mrs. Louisa J. Gooch.
On Monday, March 19, 1900, Mrs. Louisa J. Gooch, one of the old citizens of the county, departed this life. She was the daughter of Dr. Adolphus E. Wood who came from Cuba, where deceased was born, and settled near Oak Dale at an early date, as early as 1834, and in 1849 she married James Gooch who was one of our best citizens, and who died some years ago. The deceased was the mother of several children, among them Mrs. Wiley who lived in Shelbina at one time, also Mrs. John Hopewell who lives in Kirksville, and who reached here Monday to see her mother.
Deceased was a consistent member of the Christian church.
