JOHN JURSKI - Fourth Ward Democratic Chairman For 15 Years
John J. Jurski, 85, retired Fourth Ward Democratic chairman who had served 45 years in various Lucas County offices, died yesterday in Riverside Hospital.
A native of Poland, Mr. Jurski came to Toledo in 1900. During the last six years, he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Florence Jacobs, 286th Street. Earlier, he had lived many years at Maple and Weber Streets.
Mr. Jurski had been Democratic chairman of the Fourth Ward for 15 years. When he retired from the political post in 1961, he received a letter from President Kennedy commending him for his long and dedicated service to the party.
A deputy eight years in the Lucas County treasurer's office, he was named chief deputy sheriff in 1945 by the late Sheriff George B. Timinery, replacing John Shimmel. He held that position four years and subsequently was employed in the county engineer's division, retiring in 1969 from the sign painting department at the Lucas County garage.
In earlier years, Mr. Jurski also was a deputy radio dispatcher and night jailer six years under the late Sheriff James O'Reilly.

Also surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Guthrie; son, Donald; brother, Walter, and sisters, Mrs. Kate Sadowski and Mrs. Sally Antoszewski.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow in the church.
