MARION - Calvin Lee Baker, 70, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 13, 1936, in Marion, the son of Fred and Opal (Williams) Baker.

He attended school in Marion.

Mr. Baker answered the call of the nation by enlisting into the United States Marine Corps in 1953. He served faithfully until the time of his honorable discharge in 1958 with the rank of sergeant.

He was united in marriage to Betty Browning on Aug. 30, 1955, and to this union two children were born, Tim and Tina.

Mr. Baker was of Protestant faith. He was a member of IBEW Local Union 702 of West Frankfort, and former member of Fellowship Lodge 89 A.F. & A.M. of Marion.

For most of his life he was an electrical lineman working through the IBEW Local 702. In 1986, he received his associate degree in electronic technology from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale and worked for various companies as a field service technician.

Though work took much of his time, the love of his life was his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always took great interest in all their activities giving encouragement and guidance. The many memories that were created will always be cherished by those now left behind.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Tracey Baker of Pittsburg; daughter, Tina Pease of Carbondale; four grandchildren, Aaron Baker and Daniel Baker, both of Pittsburg, Bryan Baker and his wife, Holly, and Sarah Langley, all of Marion; three great-grandchildren, Derek Baker, Kaden Langley and Kyler Langley; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Sue Baker of Marion and James and Adelheide Baker of Couch, Mo.; several nieces and nephews other extended family and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Opal Baker; and his sister, Jackaleen "Cork" Diamond.

The visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion.

Following the time of visitation the graveside committal service will be at 11:15 a.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion, with the Rev. William Rucker presiding.

For those who would like to make a memorial contribution in memory of Mr. Baker, the family has requested contributions to First Christian Church ? Disciples of Christ Youth Program. Memorial contributions may be mailed c/o Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
