Mr. David Virgil Wicker, Jr., age 77, of Sanford, NC, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family, after a courageous 13 year battle with G.I.S.T. cancer.

He was born in Lee County on March 3, 1935 to the late David Virgil Wicker, Sr. and Emma Steele Wicker.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Mildred Thomas and a brother James W. Wicker.

David graduated from Deep River High School and was a member of Zion Christian Church. In past years, David held many leadership roles within the church. David also served our country in the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Peggy L. Wicker Wicker; son David Scott Wicker of Deep River; two daughters Cheryl Asato and husband Stacey of Franklinton and Julie Chriscoe and husband Joe of Apex; one sister Betty High of Norwood; and five grandchildren Aime Pender, Ashley Pender, Kaitlyn Asato, David Asato and Richard Wicker.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. The funeral will be Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Zion Christian Church with Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
