Bettie was the daughter of Matthew James and Amanda Robinson Phillips. She married George Washington Brown after his first wife passed away. They had one son together, Roy.

Death of Mrs. Bettie Brown

Mrs. Bettie Phillips Brown died Friday afternoon at her home on the Stephens road, 4 miles from Shelbyville. Mrs Brown was ill only a short time, and her death was a shock to the neighborhood. Funeral services were held at the El Bethel Baptist church, of which she was a devoted member. Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. C. Creasman, pastor of the First Baptist church of Shelbyville. The remains were laid to rest in the Brown graveyard.

Mrs Brown is survived by one son Roy Brown, three brothers Joe Phillips of West Tennessee, John Phillips of Mississippi, Sam Phillips, Shelbyville; three sisters, Miss Doan Phillips and Mrs. Kate Nancy, California, and Mrs. Meek Adams of Shelbyville.
