Son of John & Elizabeth Taylor Bates
Revolutionary War Vet, was with the Massachusettes Regiment in 1775. Husb of Hannah. Recieved Pension. Has no grave stone. Came to Thurman, Warren Co., NY before 1800 and was back and forth between Bolton & Warrensburgh later. In the 1840 Bolton census, John is 86 years old, recognized as a soldier of the revolution, living with Joseph & Maria Beswick Putney. son Asa Bates went to Otto NY. A daughter Hannah went to Montgomery County, NY. Brothers Ford Bates and Carver Bates were also Soldiers of the Revolutionary Army.
