A. L. served during the Korean Conflict in the US Army and then worked in the oilfield as a plant operator for Getty – Texaco. He was a member of the Odessa Masonic Lodge AF and AM No. 955. A. L. was a jack of all trades and was very active. In addition to his other duties, he served as a volunteer fireman. On his own time, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons: Roland Elrod and wife Debbie of Odessa and Randy Elrod of Midland; sister: Kathleen Bennett and husband Red of Rotan, TX; five grandchildren: Cliff Cody and wife Amelia of Somerset, OH, Randy Elrod and wife Nancy of Napierville, IL, Samantha Gutierrez and husband Johnny of San Antonio, Kristie Bass and husband Tony of Odessa and Kendra Turner and husband Steven of Dallas; and eight great-grandchildren. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss their "Papa".
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, February 4, 2013 at Northside Baptist Church of Odessa, officiated by Bro. Clydell Chapman. Interment will follow at Crane Cemetery in Crane, TX. Pallbearers will be Tony Bass, David Jones, Allen Harris, Pat Harris, Jack Turner, and Michael Wilson. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W.
