Emmaline Sarah{Coffer} (Young) Huskey, 80, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005 at the Lake District Hospital.
Emmaline was born Dec. 22, 1924 in Alturas, Modoc County, Calif. to George E. Young of Josephine County and Phoebe Rachel Coffer Young, of Alturas. She was the third of 12 children. Emmaline spent her younger years in a lumber camp at Bray, Calif. Later, she lived in Bonanza, Bly and Lakeview, where her father continued to work in the lumber industry. She attended school in Lakeview.
She married Charley Alvin Huskey on March 27, 1944 while he was serving in the US Army. They were married in Alturas. Soon after his discharge from the military, they made their home in Lakeview, where they spent their lives. They constructed two homes while living in Lakeview where they raised their five children.
In earlier years, Emmaline was active in her church. She took pride in having helped in the planning and building of the Trinity Baptist Church. For a number of years, she taught summer Bible School to the children, including many of her nieces and nephews.
Emmaline took pride in her community and spent countless hours volunteering in the organizations she loved. She was a past madam president and member of the Grand Auxiliary in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and also, served several terms as president for the Ladies Auxiliary, Layne Clifton VFW, Post 4070.
In addition, she served as president and member of the Lake County Fair Association and Board, and the Lakeview Suburban Sanitation District. She continued to be active in all organizations until recent years.
Much of her volunteer work was at the Lake County Senior Center, where she spent several days each week. She was a regular attendee and dispersed tickets for meals. Afterwards, she participated in one of her great loves, playing Bingo.
Emmaline loved her family and her home served as a gathering place for those who lived out of town. She continued to show interest and support for the activities of the younger generations of the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley; son, Jeff; parents and four brothers.
She is survived by son, Howard of Bend; daughters, June Riley of Oakland, Md., Debbie Scharer of Kent, Wash., and Becky Horlacher of Yacolt, Wash; brothers, Melvin, Jerome and Bert Young all of Lakeview; sisters, Carmen Wilson of Ashland, Loretta Simpson of Medford and Bonnie Jelley of India and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service was held on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the First Presbyterian Church. Internment was held at the Westside Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Floyd Wilson, LeRoy Simpson, Jim Young, Ray Young, Steve Ferl, Robert Havely, Joe Havely and Josh Zoboroski. Honorary Casket bearers were Dr. Robert Bomengen, Dr. Tim Gallagher, Jere Barry and Dale Sauer.
Donations honoring Emmaline may be made to the Lake County Senior Center, PO Box 871, Lakeview OR 97630, VFW Post 4070 Ladies Auxiliary, PO Box 614, Lakeview OR 97630 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
