Maria was the daughter of John Oxford, a gardener, who was christened 23 Oct 1808 in Almer, Dorsetshire, England. She was married 6 Mar 1859 to John Oseland, a saddler, in Edgbaston, Birmingham, Warwick, England. They had 2 daughters, and she worked as a dressmaker. After John passed away in 1893, she emigrated to Boston with her daughter's family in 1904 aboard the S.S. Republic.
She was living with her granddaughter & her family when her clothing caught fire while lighting a candle. She passed away shortly afterwards due to the severity of her burns and was buried on 11 Aug 1911.
