Although her name was Elizabeth, she was always known as "Bessie". After her grandmother died, Bessie walked over to her grandfather's home to sleep in his home every evening for 11 years. She was a very accomplished dressmaker for the shop of Lady Duff Gordon on Michigan Boulevard. Some of her clothing was donated to the Chicago Historical Society.
