It is with heavy sadness that the family of James R. Adams announces his passing on Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Ventura at the age of 86. He was born on September 9, 1926 in Venice, CA.

Jim was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He enjoyed sharing stories of his experiences, and to his death he was an avid supporter of our military. He moved from North Hollywood to Ventura in 1959, to take a job with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. Jim worked for the department until 1987, retiring at the rank of Sergeant.

He enjoyed fishing and camping all of his life, especially going up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and continued to do so well after his retirement. He also took up golfing after retiring, taking golfing trips all around the United States, England and Ireland. He took these trips with his best golfing buddy, Ernie Rogers.

Jim is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Barbara; daughter Jeanne Ogletree; son, John Adams; granddaughter Kris Ogletree Koczka (husband Mike) great-grandchildren Katie, Trevor and Joshua; brother Don Adams (wife Carol); and cousin Harry Adams.

Jim's family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to his doctor, James Hornstein of Ventura, who was not only his family doctor for many years, but a good friend to Jim and his family at this difficult time. And also, to the caring doctors and nurses of ICU, CCU, and the 4th floor at Community Memorial Hospital, who cared for Jim during his valiant fight. Words cannot describe our gratitude to all of you.

In accordance with Jim's wishes, he was cremated, with no public funeral planned.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura. Condolences may be left at TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
