Donald Edward Jones, 79, of Eureka, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.
He was born August 3, 1920, at Fredonia, Kansas. He was the son of Lowell E. and Zoe "Maxwell" Jones.

Don's early years were spent in the Fredonia area. The family moved to Eureka, KS to operate a grocery store when he was a boy. Don attended Eureka schools and was a graduate of Eureka High School in the class of 1939.

Don entered the United States Army Air Corps in October 1942 and proudly served his country during World War II. Following his discharge in December 1945, he returned to Eureka and in 1954 built the IGA grocery store in Eureka.

On February 14, 1945, Don married Theda Huddleston in Wichita. This marriage ended in divorce.

On December 9, 1967, Don married Neola "Culbertson" Prye in Nowata. OK. They lived in Sedalia, MO, where Don worked for a food brokerage company. Don and Neola then moved to Valley Center, KS, where they owned and operated a grocery store. They operated the store for three years before moving to Pratt, KS. In Pratt they managed a Travel Lodge Motel for five years. In 1979 they retired and moved back to Eureka to live.

Don was a member of the Fidelity Lodge No. 106, the York Rite Bodies in Eureka, the Midian Shrine in Wichita, and the Lions Club of Eureka.

Survivors include his wife, Neola of Eureka; three sons, Lanny, Scott, and Gary.; two step-daughters, Sharon and Connie; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held March 24 at the Campbell-Kelley Funeral Home in Eureka. Rev. James Bush, of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Don was cremated and his remains placed in the Weakley Cemetery, New Albany, KS.
