OBITUARY
Paul Wayne Barnett, 60, of Somonauk, IL and formerly of Canton, IL, passed away at home on Monday, February 7th with his family beside him after fighting a 13 year courageous battle of cancer, non-Hodgkins lymphoma & leukemia. He was born on July 28, 1944 to Charles W. and Nellie Werry Barnett. He married Nancy J. Olson Jones on March 30, 1973.
Paul attended Canton High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He retired in 1996 after 30 years with Caterpillar in Montgomery, IL. Paul was employed with Wal-Mart Supercenter in Plano, IL from 1996 til his death. Past member of the Rte. 66 Club of Illinois, Lincoln Highway Club of Illinois, and Mustang Club of America. Paul loved to travel. He and his wife were on a documentary on The Travel Channel in October/November of 2004 called "Kings of the Road: Mustangs Across America". Paul and Nancy drove the only Mustang from Illinois that traveled from Ontario, CA to Nashville, TN for the Mustang's 40th Anniversary.
Surviving is his wife of 31 years, Nancy; two daughters, Shirley (Gary) Lechowicz of Millington, IL and Paula Barnett of Somonauk; three grandchildren, Samantha (Brad) Ray of Rossville, IL, Timothy Sullivan and Terry Sullivan of Millington, IL; his mother, Nellie Barnett of Canton, IL; one sister, Estelle (Joe) Simpson of Canton, IL; six brothers, Gerald, Charles (Charlotte) of Cuba, IL, Donald (Fran), Raymond (Marie), Harold (Sally) and Mark, all of Canton, I; father and mother-in-law, Newman and Jane Olson of Somonauk, IL; brother-in-law, Norman (Rhonda) Olson of Somonauk, IL; sister-in-law, Emily Olson of Phillipsburg, KA; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are two infant sons, Paul Wayne Jr. and John Wayne from a previous marriage; his father, Charles W. Barnett; and brother-in-law, Newman Olson Jr.
Cremation was accorded the wishes of Paul and the family. Visitation will be held at the Beverage Funeral Home on Saturday, February 12th from 1 to 4 p.m.
Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, TAILS of DeKalb Co. Humane Society, or Children's Memorial Hospital of Chicago, IL.
