Was in the Navy as a cook during World War II in the Pacific Theater - he was there at Mt. Sirabachi, witnessing the raising of the flag by the Marines. He was chef on a yacht, and then opened his own diner called Tony and Jack's on 79th Street Causeway in Miami, FL.
