"Dr. Sam Page, Former Health Chief, Dies
Former Walla Walla County coroner and director of the City-County Health Department, Dr. Sam R. Page, 73, died at a local hospital Tuesday.
Born Feb. 15, 1898 in Barton, Fla., Dr. Page graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School. Before coming to Walla Walla in 1935, he was employed in public health work in Kentucky and practiced medicine in Idaho. Here, Dr. Page held a private practice from 1935 until 1962 when he became the director of the city-county health department until retiring in 1968.
He was a member of the American Medical Association and the Walla Walla County Medical Association. He was also a member of BPOE 287 of Walla Walla, the Walla Walla Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons Zabud Council No. 7 R&SM and served on the St. Mary hospital staff. Dr. Page is survived by his wife, Esther, at the home; a son, Harold Page of Walla Walla; a daughter, Mrs. James (Sally) Johnson of Erie, Pa.; a brother, Glenn Page of Barwick, Ga.; and two sisters, Mrs. Bob Shawver of Barwick, Ga. and Mrs. Ethel Bradshaw of Rogers, Ark.; and two grandchildren.
