KEARNEY - Marvelin Viola Fowler, 94 of Kearney died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Revs. Gary Main and Dave Fowler officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at West Blue Cemetery in rural Milford. O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Dec. 3, 1918, in Montrose, S.D., to Glenn and Rosie "Alma" (Simmons) Minert. On Aug. 5, 1938, she married James Fowler in Santa Barbara, Calif. He died in 1993.
Survivors include her son, Jim Fowler and his wife, Margaret, of Blacksburg, Va.; son, Rich Fowler and his wife, Cindy, of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter, Karen Levos and her husband, Ken, of Rochester, Minn.; son, Ron Fowler and his wife, Kathy, of Johnson Lake; son, Dave Fowler and his wife, Alice, of Bloomfield, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy Minert and his wife, Jean, of Brigham City, Utah, Harry Minert and his wife, Kimi, of Orange, Calif., Larry Minert and his wife, Mary, of Commerce City, Colo.; sister, Florence Goodrich of Las Vegas; and many nieces and nephews.
She received her education from Nelson High School and graduated in 1936. She and James settled in Milford in 1966. Marvelin served as the church secretary for several years. She moved to Kearney in December 1996. She was an active member of the Kearney First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter-in-law; brothers, Bernard and John Minert; and sister, Beryl Watts.
