Henry Ransom Beavers was June 8, 1824, in Lancaster District, South Carolina and was the son of Peter and Mary Baker Beavers. He came to Georgia with his family in the late 1820s. They settled in Dekalb County.

As orphans of an 1812 soldier, Henry, his brother William Coleman Beavers and his sister Rebecca Beavers were awarded land by the State of Georgia. Their lot was located in Gilmer County, Georgia. Their mother, Mary Baker, was also awarded land which was located in Floyd County.

The family moved to Marietta, and Henry's mother Mary Beavers was listed on the 1834 census for Cobb County. He lived the remainder of his life in Marietta, mostly on Beavers Street off Roswell Road. He earned his living as a carpenter.

He married Mary Hamilton Park, who was from South Carolina. They had 10 children.

Henry was too old to join the Confederate Army during the Civil War, but he joined the Georgia State Guard. Henry Ransom Beavers achieved the rank of Corporal in Company B after he enlisted in 1863 in the Georgia Volunteer Infantry - Company B, Major G.W. Lee's Battalion - Provost Guards.

When the Georgia Militia was reorganized in Feb, 1864, he and his son, John Hamilton Beavers, were transferred to the 5th Reserve Infantry Georgia, Company B. Their regiment was put under the Command of General Joseph E. Johnston, and he and his son fought with the Confederate Army of Tennessee through the Battle of Bentonville, NC, March 19-21, 1865.

Henry Ransom Beavers was wounded in the right arm just below the shoulder during at Bentonville. He was on medical furlough when Gen. Johnston surrendered to Sherman On April 26, 1865.

After his wife died in 1895, Henry Ransom Beavers was left destitute and had to sell his house and land. He received a pension for Civil War Veterans and died in 1903.
