Grant and Freda were married in 1896 at Eau Claire, Wisconsin, U.S.A. They moved to Canada following the death of Grant's parents in 1905 and 1907.

They had a (baby Evelyn) who only lived a month and is buried in the cemetery where her grandparents and other kin are. Children on the 1910 census Eau Claire county, WI.: Mildred age 13, Grace age 12, Clara age 10, Stafford H.(Harrison)age 9, Delia M. age 6, Orval G. age 3 or 5, William U. age 11 months.
