Jens Jensen Fonnesbech/k
Jens Jensen Fonnesbech was the first child of Jens Jensen Fonnesbech (1750-1794) and his second wife, Karen Troelsen (1764-1827). He was born in Gjellerup, Denmark.

His siblings are (with mother, sp. 2):
Appelone Jensen Fonnesbech 1798-1856
Kirsten Jensen Fonnesbech 1801-(1801)
Troels Jensen Fonnesbech 1804-1855
Mette Jensen Fonnesbech 1807-1824

He married Maren Knudsen (1794-1843) She died in March of 1843 leaving him with a family of five living children. On June 2, 1843 he married Ane Margrethe Pedersen who was 23 years old and the same age as his oldest daughter, Karen. Jens and Ane had another nine children.

Jens was a hard living man. He liked to party, drink and joke. The family were landowners but because he was not careful, his brother, Troels, was able to take it from him by convincing him to trade farms. They moved to that smaller farm and then another. But he was tricked to sign over the deed of the last place when he had been drinking. His family (Ane and the children) could only take the clothes they were wearing. (Smart worman, though, she fought the system and won the deed, property and the cows back!) Jens was ailing and no longer left the home. He died two years later in Borris Dudal, Rinkgobing, Denmark and was buried in Gjellerup, Ringkobing, Denmark on May 24, 1865. A family member who has done research on the family told me when I asked him specifically how to locate his grave that more than likely because of the burial practices of the time - burying and then reburying in the same spot - would prevent us from finding his remains. Still, I would at least be glad to know what cemetery it was. He could not elucidate for me. I question also that he was buried in Gjellerup as opposed to a cemetery nearer to Borris. It was a distance away and the road system was not as it is today.

I have now a photo of Jens. It would be interesting to see how certain physical traits may have been passed on to his progeny. Yay! Finally can see his face. His nose is so much nicer than mine!
