George Floyd Ball was the eighth child born to the late A.J. and Allonia Ball December 17, 1923 in Seguin, Texas. He went to be with the Lord on February 1, 2013. Elder Ball was educated at Sweet Home School. He worked many jobs including: Southern Pacific Railroad, Western Auto, Alamo Iron Works in San Antonio, and Guadalupe County Road and Bridge. He was a self-employed recyclist and mechanic. Brother Floyd Ball was united in holy matrimony to Sister Ruth Miller. She preceded him in death. To this union two children were born, George Floyd Jr. and Annie Louise. Brother Ball accepted Christ at an early age at Zion Hill Baptist Church. He faithfully served as Trustee, B.T.U President, sang with a gospel quartet and choir. The talented Ball brothers and sisters singing group became known as the A.J. Ball Singers. In 1950, Brother Floyd Ball was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost at Refuge Church. He was ordained as a deacon. Deacon Ball continued to sing in local and state choirs. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and president of the Brotherhood. Deacon Floyd Ball was ordained elder at the Bible Institute of the COOLJC in New York. His leadership included: Junior Convention Supervisor, teacher of Spiritual Step-Up Class, Overseer of True Holiness Apostolic Church, Senior Advisor, and Grievance Committee Chairman East Texas Diocese. Elder Ball was appointed pastor of Mt. Zion Church in West San Antonio in 1965. After the Lord called Sister Ruth from labor to reward, Pastor Ball married Sister Billie Fai Adams. Mt. Zion Church was remodeled and expanded. Church indebtedness was paid off and the mortgage burning celebrated. Elder Ball was promoted to District Elder by Apostle J.P. Steadman. Many lives have been touched by the life, labor and love of Pastor Ball and Wife. His ministry has been one of caring, outreach, and encouragement. Mt. Zion has stood as a lighthouse to the Westside San Antonio Community. Five generations of the original pastorate have come to know the Lord Jesus. Many souls have been saved, talents discovered, nurtured and gone forth in leadership and service. He established an Outreach Mission at SUNSHINE, an Adult Personal Care Facility on the Southside of San Antonio. Regular services of praise, worship and Bible teaching continue. Pastor George Floyd Ball loved God, loved God's word, and loved God's People. He faithfully served the body of Christ throughout the state, region and international.
