Visitation for Charles J. Anchor, 74, a resident of Sun City, will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at the James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley and will continue from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Born Oct. 25, 1933, in Chicago, to Alexander and Leona (nee Chapek) Anchor, he passed away Monday, April 21, of colon cancer at his home. In 1954, Charlie "Chuck" married Dolores. They spent two years in France, where Charlie served his country as a specialist third class carpenter for the Army Corp of Engineers. Charlie and Dolores settled in Addison for 37 years, where he had a 47-year career as a foreman for Missner- Lirtzman. Throughout his life he was an avid fisherman and was very involved with raising exotic birds (from hummingbirds to pheasant) but with a particular fondness and expertise for breeding, raising and showing zebra finches. He judged and served on the board, including president, of many birding organizations, including the NFSS, NCBS, NIRC and GCCC; newsletters and magazines regarding birds. Chuck also enjoyed hunting and woodworking. After relocating to the Del Web community in Huntley, he became very active in local politics and many clubs, including the Woodchucks, Anglers, Jasperwockeys and the local VFW.
He is survived by his loving son, David (Leah) and the grandchildren he doted on, Nicholas and Cassandra; beloved sisters, Andrea (Ray) Andre and Mary Davis; in-laws, Carol (Helmuth) Reuter, Casimer (Lavonne) Wieczorek; best friends, Ray and Carol Wieczorek; and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and countless cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Dolores (Wieczorek) and his parents.
