Martha Ann Adsit was born June 30, 1837, at Montville township, Medina County, Ohio. She then moved with her parents and siblings to Wisconsin. She is the only adult child of Josiah and Maria (Knapp) Adsit who never married. A true Wisconsin pioneer, Martha seems to have had limited skills, as she lived as a boarder and housekeeper with her sister Eliza (Adsit) Page's family at their Menasha farm from 1867 until her death. She is listed with them in the federal censuses from 1870 through 1900.

After her sister, Eliza Page, died in 1909, Martha continued living with the family of her nephew, Fred Page, at Menasha. She died at their home at age 77 on November 15, 1914. Her death was reported the following day in the Oshkosh's Daily Northwestern.
