SERVICES SET FOR LONGTIME MAC BUSINESSMAN - RICHARD BENNETTE

A funeral for longtime businessman Richard G. "Dick" Bennette of McMinnville will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville, with Phil Schreiber officiating. Private family interment will be in South Yamhill Cemetery, McMinnville.

The funeral home will be open for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

Mr. Bennette died Dec. 16, 1999, in Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville. He was 69.

He was born Dec. 19, 1929, in McMinnville, the son of John B. and Elsie Odell Bennette. He was raised and educated in McMinnville. He attended Linfield College and Oregon College of Education, now known as Western Oregon University. As a young man, he took over his father's automobile business, Bennette Motor Co., in downtown McMinnville.

Mr. Bennette was an officer in the National Guard, retiring as a captain in 1967 with 21 years of service. He served as commander of Company A, 162nd Infantry, McMinnville.

He and Jan were married Sept. 18, 1971.

He sold his automobile business in 1977 and went into the real estate business in 1978. At the time of his death, he was an associate broker with Century 21 Best Western Real Estate, McMinnville.

Mr. Bennette was a past Realtor of the Year. He was former two-time president and longtime board member of the Yamhill County Association of Realtors. He was past president of the board of Henderson House Family Crisis Shelter.

He belonged to Michelbook Country Club, McMinnville. He was a former member of the McMinnville Automobile Association, Toastmasters and the McMinnville Rotary Club. He was a former trustee of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 1283, McMinnville. He loved travel, golf, computers and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Joseph Bennette of Salem, Gregg Robinson of McMinnville, Joel Bennette and Barney Bennette, both of Newberry, Fla., and Richard Bennette of China; a brother, Jerry Bennette of Gresham; a sister, Mary Toliver of Laguna Beach, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
