John William Doby, 35, of Oceanside Ca.,died Tuesday aboard the Navy ship USS Munsee ATF-107 in the Gulf of Tonkin.He was a native of Grand Junction, Colorado and had lived in Oceanside for three years serving in the Navy at Camp Pentleton, Ca. He had been in the U. S. Navy for 18 1/2 years, serving as a medical corpman and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was preceded in death by his father William Jackson Doby and mother Alta Lucille Doby. Survivors include his widow, Ann Elizabeth, a son, Mark John, and a daughter Valerie Ann all of Oceanside. Services were held at Allen Brothers Mortuary in Vista.Serving as pallbearers were Dick Crosby, Ernest Zettel, Jerry Petterson, Harlan Nurhart, Ivan Orr, and Jack Caldwell, who were fellow Corpman in the U. S. Navy. Dad was put to rest at a military cemetary in Riverside, California. My brother Mark John Doby passed away on the morning of Sept. 27th 2004 of unknown causes. We are still investigating his death. Please leave him flowers. We miss him dearly.
