Son of Dexter Dix and Sarah A. (Jenkins) Ball.

On 12 Jul 1861 Henry, a shoemaker, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Grafton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 24 years, 3 months and 19 days old.

Henry served together in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry with Webster D. Plimpton, who would later marry Henry's sister, Mary, as his first wife.

Henry died unmarried on 9 Dec 1862 of disease. He was 25 years, 8 months and 16 days old.

On 3 Oct 1879 Sarah A. Ball, his mother, received a pension based on Henry's service.
