Mr. Sibley was born in New Hope and spent his whole life in the county except for the time he was in the military service. As a youngster he worked on his father's farm in the New Hope/Gurley area. As a young adult he worked in a dairy in the Huntsville area. Mr. Sibley enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the USN Green in Puerto Rico, South America, Europe and in the North Atlantic. While in the North Atlantic, he slipped on the icy deck of his ship. He broke his back and spent many months in a full body cast. He received a Presidential Citation in 1947 for his service in the Navy. Sometime after he returned to civilian life, he married Rachel Overton and spent the rest of his working career working with glass and eventually owned Huntsville Glass Company on Holmes Street. Mr. Sibley is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rachel Overton Sibley; one sister, Mildred Sibley Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
