Stanley R. Abbott, Danville, Indiana, “almost 92” died Saturday. He was born Feb. 22, 1921, to Aben M. and Gladys M. (Butler) Abbott, of Crawfordsville.

Mr. Abbott graduated from New Ross High School and attended Wabash College and Purdue University. He worked for Alcoa in Lafayette as plant coordinator, and then returned to the farm in Montgomery County. In 1952, he purchased and relocated to a small farm south of Pittsboro in Hendricks County. He worked in Indianapolis as a purchasing agent for many years at Armour and Company, Wm. H. Block Co. and M&E Mfg. Co. and was active in the Purchasing Agents Association.
Mr. Abbott was also general manager of the C.L. Miley Co. and was in charge of the installation of the air handling system when the State Office Building was built. He then purchased and ran the Champion Mop Co. for several years before returning to the farm in Hendricks County. Mr. Abbott was active in local politics in Middle Township, Hendricks County and the Indiana Farm Bureau Federation.

He grew up in the Mace Methodist Church and attended the Pittsboro Christian Church for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, L. Marcille (Brown) Abbott; son Jerry A. (Jean) Abbott of Lebanon; and granddaughter Deborah J. Abbott of Lebanon.

Mr. Abbott was preceded by his parents; brother Harold M. Abbott; and sister Margery (Abbott) Manges.

He was also a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11 with the funeral at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the David A. Hall Mortuary, Pittsboro. Burial will be at noon at Mace Cemetery.

Donations and tributes may be made to the Pittsboro Christian Church Food Bank.
