Andrew Edward Chalkey, 59, well-known Streator resident, passed away December 5, 1956 at his home at 604 East 12th Street. He had been in failing health for the past year.

He was born September 7, 1897 in Streator, a son of Michael and Elizabeth (Eurich) Chalkey. He spent his entire life here and on July 14, 1925, he married Mary Jasus of Streator. To this union, 11 children were born, all of whom survive.

Besides his wife, he is survived by six daughters: Alvida (John) Ftacek of Ottawa and Mary Frances, Carolyn, Donna, Janice, and Bernice, all at home; five sons: Rev. Andrew Chalkey, O.M.I. of Past Christian, Massachusetts, and Alvin, James, Frederick and Jerome Chalkey, all of Streator; three grandchildren; three sisters: Anna (Andrew) Tkach, Betty (Otto) Kolb and Mary Bertiaux, all of Streator; and four brothers: Michael, John, Edward and Albert Chalkey of Streator.

He was an active member of St. Stephen's parish and was owner and operator of Chalkey's Tavern located on East 12th Street. He had formerly operated a grocery business for many years and, at one time was assistant supervisor of Bruce Township.
