Mr. Paul A. "Jerry" Bumbaugh, 77, of Chambersburg, Pa., died at 7:50 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2005, in Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. He had been critically ill for the past two weeks.

Born July 20, 1927, in Pond Bank, Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late James E. and Viola (Wagaman) Bumbaugh.

Mr. Bumbaugh was a graduate of Chambersburg High School with the Class of 1946.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He and his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Dorothy I. (Rock) Bumbaugh, were married July 26, 1947, in Hagerstown, Md.

He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, as a safety inspector for 37 years until his retirement in 1972.

Mr. Bumbaugh was a member of Pond Bank Independent Church, Chambersburg.

Mr. Bumbaugh was active with the Pond Bank Braves Baseball Team, both playing and umpiring games for many years.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Deborah K. Truett and Lisa M. Bittinger, both of Fayetteville, Pa.; three granddaughters, Tracy M. Roman of Fayetteville, Trisha Y. Newell of Chambersburg and Mandi C. Bittinger of Fayetteville; two step-grandsons, Rusty Truett and Michael Truett, both of Chambersburg; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Roman, Skyler Roman, Bryce Stewart and Ian Stewart; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Thelma Bumbaugh, Esther Rock, Minnie Bumbaugh, and Anna Mary Bumbaugh; and one brother, James E. Bumbaugh.

Burial, with military honors, in Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy, Pennsylvania.
