William Ballard (1/2 Cherokee) was born at Whiteoak, 18 miles south of Tahlequah, CN, IT, the son of Thomas "Tom" Ballard and Caroline Eliza Romine (Sanders), both buried at Greenleaf. **See his father's gravesite for his siblings.

He married Sallie Rattlinggourd b. 1879 d. 1956 (buried at Greenleaf); they had the following children: Thomas H. b. 1896 d. 1940 and John Jack b. 1898 d. 1957 (both buried at Greenleaf); Caroline "Carrie: b. 1900 d. 1973; Donald L. Ballard b. 1902 d. 1973 and Capitola "Cap" L. b. 1904 d. 1976 (both buried at Greenleaf); William Romine "Skeet" b. 1909 d. 1989/90; Lillie Belle b. 1909 d. 1910; David "Hawk" b. 1911 d. 1999; Janana b. 1913 d. 1914 (buried at Greenleaf).
