RANDOLPH C. BASS DIES AT READYVILLE

Prominent Farmer Is Buried Thursday at Milton, His Former Home

Randolph C. Bass, 77, died at his home in Readyville Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock after a short illness. Funeral services were held at the Milton Baptist church Thursday morning at 10 o'clock and burial was in the Milton cemetery.

Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sallie Rion Bass, and three sons, I. M. Bass of Waco, Tex., S. D. Bass of Shelbyville, and E. B. Bass of Readyville; two daughters, Mrs. Bettie B. Brown of Readyville, and Mrs. Hassell Jennings of Milton; two step-children, Mrs. D. C. Brew and Walter Hood; also 20 grandchildren; one brother, J. D. Bass of McKinney, Tex., three sisters, Mrs. J. E. Satterfield, Washington, D. C., Mrs. Etta McBride of Dallas, Tex., and Mrs. Judson Grimmett of Shreveport.

Born and reared in the Milton community, Mr. Bass was a son of Robert C. and Malissa Phillips Bass, pioneer setters of that section. He became a member of the Bradley's Creek Baptist church in early manhood and later transferred his membership to Ward's Grove church and was a deacon. On February 10, 1875 he was married to Miss Sara Matthews who died in April, 1905. Six children were born to this union, five of whom survive. In 1909, he was married to Mrs. Sallie Rion Hood.

Mr. Bass was one of the best known farmers and stockraisers of the northeastern section of the county and had butchered as many as 500 hogs in one year and sold the meat. Two years ago he retired from active farm work and moved to Readyville. He was a highly respected citizen and a Christian gentleman and active in church and community work.
