Alice "Shirley" Ragsdale Roots, 77, of Lenoir, North Carolina, died October 6, 2011 in Warrensburg, Missouri, with her family by her side.
She was born January 16, 1934, the daughter of the late Wilta and James Ragsdale. She was one of six siblings. On September 5, 1956 she married the love of her life, Robert Laverne Roots and spent her life as a devoted military wife and loving mother, traveling the world and enjoying many different cultures and experiences.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Evelynn Roots, of Georgetown, Texas; her son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Heather Roots, of Warrensburgh, Missouri; grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Alex, Terence and William; sisters, Marion Poarch and Tana Moretz of Lenoir, NC, and a special friend, J.T. Woods of Lenoir, NC. She will be sadly missed by her friends and extended family.
Mrs. Roots is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 31 years, Robert Laverne Roots; her sisters Barbara Anne Ragsdale, Betty Triplett; and her brother David Ragsdale.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on October 15, 2011 at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am for all who wish to attend. Shirley will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery, Lenoir, NC, following the service.
