Edward D. Guy Sr., 79, died Sunday, August 16, 1998, at St. Augustine Health & Rehabilitation Center in St. Augustine following a long illness.
He was a native of Indianapolis, Ind and had lived in the Palatka area for the past 48 years, coming from South Florida. He was a scaleman in Pulp & Paper manufacturing and retired from Georgia-Pacific Corp. in 1983 after 28 years of service. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Palatka. He was a member of the Pulp & Paperworkers Union. In his earlier years, he was a professional rodeo cowboy and was a charter member of the Rodeo Cowboy Association. He followed rodeos throughout the United States rubbing shoulders with such people as the late Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. He as a national champion steer wrestler. He experienced working in the famous 101 Ranch in Oklahoma, worked on the Hoover Dam, and was a Texas Ranger. He had also worked as a blacksmith. He always met you with his trusting smile.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marie Guy; and four brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Marie Guy of Palatka; son, Edward Daniel "Buddy" Guy Jr. of Plover, Wis.; sisters, Betty Jane Addleman of Brownsburg, Ind. and Nellie Perry of Ind.; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at graveside at Palatka Memorial Gardens with Bishop Richard Brinker officiating. Flag presentation will be given by the U.S. Army.
