Son of Stephen and Mary (Aderton) Stetson.
Married Susan Batterson on Feb. 10, 1816.
Children: Henry, Louisa, Napoleon, Martha Ann, Olivia, Caroline, John, George, Sarah, Charles, Elizabeth and Isaac.

Stephen was a very successful hatter by trade. He lived in Rahway and Orange Valley, NJ for many years and eventually was known as one of the richest men in the business, When he had saved $50,000, he retired at age 50, invested much of his wealth in another business about which he knew nothing, and died a discouraged and bankrupt man.
