Robert Francis Shriver, 87 of Avalon, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013. Born Nov. 2, 1925, in Connellsville, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Catherine L. (DeTemple) Shriver. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie D. "Doe" (Waibel) Shriver.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and one grandson. He was the father of Bobby (Diana) Shriver, Mary Lou (Dave) Sutfin, Joseph (Jeannette) Shriver, Therese (Stanley) Schmuck, Eileen (David) Gaugler, Barbara (Jeffery) Driscoll and Michelle Shriver; also survived by 31 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME INC., 388 Center Ave., West View 15229. Mass of Christian Burial will be held from 10 a.m. Friday in Church of the Assumption. Interment in North Side Catholic Cemetery.

Robert J. Shriver grew up in St. Paul's orphanage in downtown Pittsburgh. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943, at age 18, where he served aboard The LST 615 & in Pearl Harbor in WWII.
