He served in the civil war in Company E, 34th Georgia Infantry CSA.

Oscar, the next oldest son, served through the war, was captured twice, and spent one winter as a prisoner in Camp Douglass Chicago, and he say that Camp Douglass was just as bad as Andersonville, Georgia. ~Adair History and Genealogy, Chapter 39, page 249
