Albert Raymond Barnes was born in Damascus, Wayne Co., Pa., Oct. 7, 1846, and passed away at his home in Independence Tuesday, Sept. 25, 1906, of apoplexy.

Mr. Barnes was employed at Webster's seed farm and worked all day Saturday going home from his days labors apparently in the best of health. Sunday he felt rather miserable, but kept up cheerful and uncomplaining, making all his arrangements for going back to work Monday morning, but toward evening he suddenly grew worse but not alarming until Monday night when the family saw that his recovery was uncertain, but still hoped for the best. But he gradually grew worse until they say the end was near and he passed away at 1:05 p.m. Deceased came to this state with his parents in 1867, settling on a farm near Delhi, Ia. Jan 17, 1869 he was united in marriage to Mary M. Rockwell. Apr. 6, 1886, she passed away having five children all of whom grew to maturity; Frank, Will, Clara, Rose and Lizzie. Aug. 20, 1886 he was again united in marriage to Elizabeth Duncan of Warren, Ill. To this union was born three children; Maggie, Charles and Louis.

Mr. Barnes lived in Delhi until in 1888 when he moved with his family to Manchester, where he lived for several years coming to Independence in the fall of 1902 where he has since resided until the time of his death.

His eldest son, Frank H., died Apr. 15, 1903, in Green Bay, Wis., and a daughter Mrs. Rose Swartzel, passed away at her home in Quasqueton, Ia., Aug 26, 1904. Deceased was always an upright, moral, conscientious man, honest and true in all his dealings with his fellow man.

The golden rule of Life has always been his religion. He was a kind devoted husband, and a dear, and loving father, and he was esteemed and respected by all who knew him. And to all the family who feel their great loss so deeply, we extend our heartfelt sympathy. The funeral was held at the house Thursday at 9:00 a.m., and was well attended. Went to Manchester, then by carriage to Delhi, Ia, where he was laid to rest by the side of the wife of his youth. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and six children as follows: W.H.Barnes of Manchester, Mrs. Nick Till Jr., Clara, Mrs. Maggie Reisner, Charles and Louis of this place. Also four brothers and five sisters; Wheeler Barnes, Abijah Barnes, and Mrs. Stoner all of Mend, Wash.,Mrs. Mary Fierstine of Garry S. D., Mrs. Maggie Myers of Anamosa, Mrs. Charles Ericcson of Kansas, L.D.Barnes of Coggon, and A. D. Barnes of Independence. One sister, Mrs Myers and two brothers, L.D. and A.D.Barnes were present.

The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful being placed on and around the casket by tender, loving hands of devoted friends.
