Parents were John Spiker (1808 - 1857) & Julia A. Hanna (1815 - 1882)

Married Malinda Barnes in Omaha, Douglas County on 23 Dec 1866. Was the third Sheriff of Hall County, being elected in 1871, serving until 1873.

History of Hall County, Nebraska:
William Spiker was elected sheriff in 1871 and served until 1873, he was Grand Island City Marshal from 1873 to 1874. He came to Grand Island in 1866 and operated a livery. After his tenure as city marshal he rented the Nebraska House Hotel for a short time and changed the name to the State Central Hotel. In October of 1874 he was elected constable for the Grand Island precinct and was still engaged as constable in 1879. From 1876 until 1884 he was also an auctioneer in Grand Island.

Wm. Spiker died at a little before noon to-day, after a few days of severe sickness. Deceased was one of the pioneers in this city and was at one time sheriff of Hall county. He has been in the auction business for some time and was well known by all the old settlers as well as most of the new.

The funeral of Wm. M. Spiker, yesterday, was largely attended. There were services at the residence and at the grave, Rev. L. W. Terry officiating, his remarks being feeling and in excellent taste.

Wm. M. Spiker died a little before noon Friday (March 29), after a few days of severe sickness. Deceased was one of the pioneers of this city and was at one time sheriff of Hall county. He has been in the auction business for some time and was well known by all the old settlers as well as most of the new.
