Archibald K. (sometimes written as H.) McCorkle enlisted in the Confederate Army in Dallas, TX on February 25, 1862, along with two of his brothers and one nephew. The four were in Company C, 15th Texas; none of the four survived the War.

Archibald K. McCorkle was wounded in the battle for Atlanta and died in the hospital in Macon, GA on September 12, 1864. He is buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon, GA.

Archibald left a widow and four young daughters. His daughter, Mary Virginia McCorkle James, is the g-grandmother of Dorles L. Repass, who had a memorial stone for Archibald K. (H.) McCorkle placed in Scott Cemetery, Collin County, TX. It stands next to the grave of his wife, Lucretia Jane Howard McCorkle.
