Jake Abma, 89, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, September 18, 1990, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., of injuries suffered in a car-truck accident Friday in Rock Valley.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 20 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Jerry Van Groningen officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Mr. Abma was born March 29, 1901, in Orange City, the son of Mark and Reka Abma. He married Dora Faber Feb. 25, 1926, in Rock Valley.
The couple farmed in Southwestern, Minn., until moving to a farm near Rock Valley in 1947. They retired and moved into town in 1974. Mrs. Abma died Sept 27, 1982.
Mr. Abma was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and the Rock Valley Senior Citizens Group.
Survivors include a son, Edwin of Holland, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Marlene) De Yager of Steen, Minn.; a half brother, Tom Vanden Bosch of Rock Valley; two half sisters, Gert Silvis of Bigelow, Minn., and Mrs. Henry (Frances) De Wit of Inwood; and nine grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
