Walter Henry Hopkins, 83, of Lewisburg, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at his residence.Mr. Hopkins was a native of Giles County. He was in the Navy during World War II, serving with the Seabees in the South Pacific. He was retired from Teledyne Electronics and was a member of the Church Street Church of Christ.He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clifton and Willie Blanch Nix Hopkins; first wife, Francis Haggard Hopkins; sister, June Hopkins; sons, Teddy Ray Hopkins and David Hopkins; and daughter, Judy Portz.He is survived by his wife, Melba Park Chapman Hopkins of Lewisburg; daughter, Kathy Clemmons of Florida; stepdaughter, Josephine Bills of Murfreesboro; brothers, Billy and Tex Hopkins, both of Chapel Hill; sisters, Lena Bell Price of Laws Hill and Patricia Todd of Chapel Hill; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, Nov. 15, from the chapel of London Funeral Home with John Tracy officiating, followed by burial in Mars Hill Cemetery.The pallbearers were Robert Hopkins, Richard Hopkins, Tony Freeman, Joe Liggett, Greg Coblentz, and Larry Price.
