Ruth E Shafer, 75, Formerly of Warsaw, IL. and Alexis IL. passed away February 14, 2013 at the Carlisle Care Center, Carlisle, IA.
Ruth E. Davis (Ruth Eyelvie Davis) was born Nov. 12, 1937 in Briar (Buffalo) Ripley Co. MO. The daughter of George Lester and Mildred (West) Davis.
She was educated at Centerville (one room school), Seaton grade school, Lone Star (one room school) and Alexis high school all in Illinois.
Ruth married Wallace Leslie Bennett Jr. on 27 Jun. 1953 in Knoxville, Il. Wally passed away 26 Sep. 1965 in Keokuk, Lee Co. IA. She next married Gary Shaffer 1966 in Carthage, IL. They divorced. Last she married Meredith Lowell Shafer in Galesburg, IL. They later divorced . Mike died 21 Aug. 1998 in Galesburg, Knox Co, IL.
Ruth enjoyed crocheting afgans and from an early age fishing. Give her a worm and she would come home with fish, turttle or a frog.
Ruth retired after many years from Maytag in Galesburg in IL.
She is survived by her children Teresa May Bennett Hutcheson, Saltilo MS.; Kenneth Dale Bennett, Des Moines IA.; Robert Wayne Bennett, Carlisle IA.; Lisa Ann Shaffer Geissler, Basco IL; Micheal Lynn Bennett, MS and Sean Patrick Shafer, Des Moines IA. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her two sisters Barbara Sue Davis Trial and Kathryn Lucy Davis Cohoon.
Ruth was proceeded in death by her parents Lester and Mildred Davis of Alexis, IL. Two brothers Homer Lester Davis (1936) and Phillip Melton Davis (1944).
Ruth was cremated and her ashes will be buried at Oakland Cemetery, Warsaw Il. in a private service.
