Rufus King RATCLIFF was born circa 1818 at MS. He married Sarah Mitchell
Thompson on 19 September 1843 at Tyler Co., TX. He married Eliza Jane Williams
on 24 May 1866 at Jasper Co., TX. He died in 1874 at Jasper Co., TX.
Member of the Masonic Lodge # 50 organized in 1850.pg.55
he was Sheriff of Menard Dist.
after Texas Independence was secured ,The Congress of the Republic attempted to create Menard District by an act approved 1-22-1841...............Townbluff was to be the county seat until a permanet county seat was selected.
The couty seat was organized with Cheif Justice J Mac Barclay,*Sheriff R.K.Ratcliff,Accessor; E B Turner Dist.Cerk;Charles Wright,County Surveyor and John T Bean,Constable. pg.43
He was 1st postmaster of Ratcliff,TX


He served in the CIVAL WAR
AS A SHOEMAKER IN THE
13 TEXAS CAVALRY COMP K PRIV CONFEDRATE

7-1-1864 to 4-1865


Directions:
Take loop 777 by the jasper airport and pass Walnut run creek and turn left at cr 317
and there are signs there now for all cemeteries out there...
go til the road dead heads and take the fork to the right.
and a sign for Ratcliff and Smyth cemetery is there , then go about 2 miles and first you should see
a sign for Smyth Cemetery and then Ratcliff is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile past that.

There is a brick home on the right just before you get to the cemetery
and there is a sign at the cemetery now as it shows on the findagrave page.
