LARRY R. BURCHIEL, 62
August 16, 1950 - February 14, 2013

Mr. Larry R. Burchiel, 62, of LaPorte, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at 12:11 p.m. at his residence.

He was born Aug. 16, 1950, in Michigan City, IN, to Ralph and Luella (Heinz) Burchiel and lived most of his life in the LaPorte area.

Larry was the former owner and longtime employee of Thunderbird Lanes in LaPorte. He loved bowling and was dedicated to the success of T-Bird and keeping the bowlers happy. He was inducted into the LaPorte Men's Bowling Hall of Fame. His proudest bowling accomplishment was bowling a 703 in the ABC Nationals. He was on the Indiana State Bowling Handicap Championship Team in 1978. Larry loved his family, playing games and running through the sprinklers with his grandsons, playing cards, seeing Mickey Gilley and visiting Branson, MO. He was a big White Sox fan who loved going to games and teasing Cubs fans. He was a fun-loving guy with a great sense of humor.

On April 8, 1972, in Kingsford Heights, IN, he married Marjorie Pratt, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Kristine Burchiel of LaPorte; one son, Jeffrey Burchiel of LaPorte; two grandsons, Logan and Brent Burchiel; one uncle, Dale (Valerie) Heinz of LaPorte; one aunt, Barbara Heinz of Michigan City; numerous cousins; two sisters-in-law, Barbara (Jerry) Leffert and Kathy (Terry) Watts; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Kathy) Pratt, Thomas (Mila) Pratt and Robert Pratt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m. at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Danny Evans officiating. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, at a later date.
