Born May 8, 1922 in Indiana, he was a son of Reo Joseph Catellier and Cecelia Steigerwald Meserve. A veteran of World War II, Ferd served in the Merchant Marines as a radio officer. He was a supervisor for Corning Class in Bradford for 15 years. He then owned Sportsman Outfitters, a gun shop in Bradford. During this time he founded the “Blue and Gray” muzzleloading accessories products. After his retirement from the gun shop in 1980, he and his wife, Wellsboro native, Elizabeth [Betty] Eberenz, moved to Wellsboro, where they were both active in St. Peter’s Church, Betty as church organist and Ferd as Eucharist Minister, a leader in the R.I.A. program and parish groundskeeper. In later years they spent summers in Wellsboro and winters in Florida. From 1998 until his death they were residents of Goodview, VA. During his Virginia residency, Ferd was a volunteer at Booker T. Washington Memorial Park where he received recognition for his vegetable garden.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Betty; two sons, Matthew of Mansfield, Mark of Gardiner, Mont.; one daughter, Kathleen Felix of Charlotte, NC; three granddaughters; one great grandchild; and one sister, Sister Elaine Catellier, Maryland Heights, MO.
