McCormick, a graduate Regis High School in Staten Island and St. Lawrence University, moved to Indianapolis three years ago and was living in Greenwood, Indiana. He had just completed coursework to become a paramedic, which requires more training than an EMT, and was awaiting his certificate. He was an Eagle Scout, spoke Mandarin, played the piano and could run a mile in under five minutes in high school. He is the son of Robert McCormick, the current copy chief Staten Island Advance newspaper.
A public visitation on February 18, 2013 at Crown Hill Cemetery Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held February 19th at SS. Peter & Paul Cathedral, Indianapolis. A public memorial service will be held in honor of both men on February 20th at Clowes Hall on the Butler University campus.
Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard directed flags at all City-County facilities to be flown at half-staff to honor McCormick. Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset of the day of the last man's internment. Mayor Ballard also asked local businesses and residents to lower their flags at half-staff. The men are believed to be the first EMTs to die in the line of duty in Indianapolis.
McCormick's body will be returned to Staten Island, New York for services. A wake will be held at the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners in Staten Island, on February 20, 2013 and also February 21st. The funeral will be Friday, February 22nd from Casey, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Tompkinsville.
