"Flora Currie, the second wife of John Gilchrist belonged to the well-known Currie family from near Turnpike Bridge on Lumber River. She survived her husband many years and is buried in the Old McIntosh cemetery in Scotland County. The inscription on her gravestone reads: Mrs. Flora Gilchrist, died December 5, 1847.

She must have exercised a great influence on the children of John Gilchrist by his first marriage to Effie McMillan. They were all young at the time she married their father, and some of them were just small children. She was 78 years old at the time of her death and therefore, must have been born in 1760."

Pages 700, 701 - Lumber River Scots and their descendants, the McLeans, the Torreys, the Purcells, the McIntyres, the Gilchrists
